| Since it has a few days since I posted something here and now that I have the time, I guess I'll spend a few minutes writing.
Friday night was a busy night at work. I responded to a fatal accident on Agler Rd. where a 17-yr. old girl lost her life. The accident was pretty gruesome and due to this site being public record I will refrain from posting any details. Saturday was a good day. After the recording session I ventured over to the great City of Dublin and watched the game at the Sankey homestead with some of E-Row, Jenny Boyee and Zach Roberts. After the game I came home and prepared for work. Saturday was extremely busy as well, and Melanie Rogers (Ammons) did a ride-along with me. She had a really good time. The night was so busy that I cannot remember all the good stories; however, there is one. We are sitting at E. Dublin-Granville Rd. and Cleveland Ave. when CPD radio dispatched a home invasion where the estranged husband of the caller was trying to kick in the door and then was starting to take it of the hinges. Melanie and I were probably about 4 miles down the road, so I hit the lights and siren, told radio that I was enroute, and then sucked all the V-8 out of my high performance police vehicle with my awesome driving skills (which you should ask Melanie about) and arrived on scene in a matter of a minute. As I am pulling up the chopper is overhead. I jump from my cruiser and as I am running to the house, I realize that my cruiser is going the other direction just as fast. I thought I put the car in Park, but apparently it only made it in to Reverse. Thank the Lord Melanie was there. She reached over and placed the car in park for me. So I redirected my attention to the task at hand . . locating the suspect. There was a little red car sitting in the driveway and I noticed that there was a M/B seated in the driver seat. I pulled my high powered Smith & Wesson .45 caliber semi-automatic from my level 3 Safariland holster and made way up to the car very tactically. Using my trained command voice I barked out to the person seated in the car to exit the vehicle with his hands in the air, but he chose not to respond. I made my way closer to the vehicle and banged on the window and repeated my order . . again, no response from him, but he was looking at me. So, I opened the door, holstered my gun and made an attempt to extract him from the car, but he pulled away, so I took another approach and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and hoisted him from the seat and onto to the ground like some move from Ultimate Championship Fighting. As we fought on the ground for a few minutes, the chopper was above calling the play-by-play over the radio. By the time I got him in cuffs and to my cruiser, the rest of the officers enroute arrived on scene.
It turned out that this gentleman and the person who called us are still married, and she kicked him out, and was just trying to get bck home. I dusted him off, explained what happened, said I was sorry and dropped him off at a hotel for the night. (Ask Melanie about the night, she can tell you some good stories.)
This morning I responded to a fatal accident on SR-161 near New Albany, and I must say that this one was just as, if not more gruesome as the one on Friday. People please be very careful when you are driving. Just because you drive safely doesnt mean everyone else does. Always be looking ahead when you are driving, give yourselves enough time to get to your destination, make sure have enough distance to react to other drivers sudden changes of direction, and most importantly . . DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!! To view this accident, here is a link to the story: http://www.nbc4i.com/news/5220723/detail.html.
Well, that's all for now!! |
